Columbus Day?

I ask you if we should celebrate Columbus Day when he was a horrible man; I am saying that we should not celebrate Columbus Day in America. In Columbus’s diario he states “It appears to me that the people are ingenious and would be good servants…” This means that before he actually got to know the Taino he was thinking of ways to enslave them. Before that he even says they were well built and were not of valor so it wouldn’t be out of fright. Also in Bartolome de las Casas’s book he said “…the Spaniards still do nothing save tear the natives to shreds, murder them and inflict upon them untold misery…” This means that Bartolome and many more witnesses have seen what horror Columbus and his crew brought to the Natives. Some people say that there is no evidence of this but historians and others have said that it is true and maybe ten percent of it is false. Finally I will say from what I have studied I know Columbus and his men killed thousands and thousands of Indians. This means that Columbus was very greedy and would not give the Indians the rights they had and would do anything for material possessions. Even though he was kind of on a business trip he still went too far in killing the natives. Even though I agree that Columbus did some decent acts for the United States he should not be a hero in the United States and if we do we could also have a Native American day for the people that did actually find America that is why we should not celebrate Columbus Day.
