What does the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve) do?

i know that EGR solenoids are used to switch engine vacuum on and off at the right time. but vacuum to what? would it affect my transmission? would it make my motor rev up go in gear, but when i accelerate slip out of gear?

Does anyone elses husband do this?

I stay at home with my 3.5 month old daughter everyday. She is not an easy baby but I am very glad I am able to stay home with her. We do not live some extravagant life but our bills are not so much that we both need to work right now. My husband does landscaping and makes decent money. We both wake up around the same time each morning and go to bed the same time each night (usually midnight since that's when our baby goes to sleep right now, and we wake up around 6 am). The problem is he gets home every night on average around 6 pm and basically just pes out. he doesn't come home and go to bed he sits in his chair and just falls asleep. and then it takes me a good 20 minutes to get him up when i need his help. literally. i cant just wake him. it doesn't even seem normal to me. i wake him and he talks in his sleep and then sitting up will just p back out. he cant even keep his eyes open. i am sick of it. i am home all day with a infant and i need help sometimes at night. right now he is ped out and has been for a while, the baby is wide awake and i was in the shower and i come out and he is sleeping soundly in his chair while she is wide awake just staring at him. MANY men do labor type jobs and are able to stay awake when they come home. his mother babies him like crazy and before i met him yrs ago and he lived with her everyday when he came home from work she would tell him to go take a nap. so this is what he has done for years even before he met me but we have a baby now and i have absolutely had it. it would be different if he would wake up when i needed him but like i said it takes at least 20 minutes to wake him up once he is asleep. i know 6 hours isn't a ton of sleep but its not like he gets 1 hour a night. i don't know what to do anymore he just refuses to stop. and i am not inconsiderate if he needed to take an nap some nights that would be fine, sometimes i do, but this is CONSTANT and i am sick of being afraid to leave the room when he is home because i know for a fact he will be sleeping within seconds and the baby will be wide awake alone with no one talking to her or inter acting with her. i want to be with a guy who comes home and stays awake and spends time with his family. is this at all normal? does anyone else have this issue?

Substitute for Vermouth in Cooking?

What would you use to substitute for vermouth in a recipe? I found this recipe: a href="http://food.yahoo.com/recipes/allrecipes/57609/slow-cooker-rosemary-and-red-pepper-chicken"http://food.yahoo.com/recipes/allrecipes…/a which is a rosemary & pepper chicken in the slow cooker. It calls for vermouth but I don't have any and am not sure the store nearby sells it.
